Alien Earth S01E01-E02 2160p WEB-DL DDP5.1 DV HDR x265

Writer and director Noah Hawley is back with his third show for FX (after Legion and Fargo), and just like those, he's staying true to the source material while moving the story forward in a really engaging way. There's a lot to think about when it comes to the themes of humanity mixing with technology, especially as we get closer to that reality. With everything we see in the news and hear from the governments the companies have bought, they're way further along than we know. If you had billions to burn, wouldn't immortality be on your agenda? That type of wealth gives you access to every experience and to own any material thing. What comes next? Power, dominance, legacy: to live forever to bask in your own glow and creation. The show looks pricey. There are plenty of practical sets with lighting and effects that pay tribute to the first two films in the franchise, plus some solid CGI and world-building. Even if you notice a few pacing issues (those built-in commercial breaks don't help), there's no denying this is a solid start for a show that's perfect for sci-fi and horror fans, especially during a time when the Alien franchise has made a comeback with Alien:Romulus last year, with potential crossover with the other sci-fi franchise having a much appreciated renaissance: Predator.
