Since I'm a big fan of the Renee Ballard books and Michael Connelly's body of work, I was excited to finally watch this. I have nothing but good to say about this new series. Ballard is a detective in the LAPD cold case unit after being unfairly demoted from homicide detective. It starts almost like it's in the middle of an episode and if I hadn't been familiar with the series it could have lost me right then. My only real problem with the series was that first 5 minutes. Renee and her team are in the middle of searching for the killer of a councilman's sister. Along the way others cases come up so there's always more than one case being worked on. Ballard is a complex character as is most of the characters on her team. There's violence here, political unfairness at times, and the found family between her and all the members of her team. I enjoyed all of the characters(except the bad guys), the mystery and already can't wait for the next season. I hope it's not that long of a wait!
