This is a very nice historical drama that details Brazil's ascendancy towards a powerful nation of the Americas. A lot of the details I had little idea about, coming from an English-speaking nation, such as the Portuguese King moving his court to Brazil to avoid Napoleon's tear through Europe. A lot of the intrigue is in the politics of the day which includes separatist movements and huge divides between Portuguese and Brasileiros, Slavers and freedmen, royalists and republicans, ect The closest comparison I could find is the wonderful John Adams miniseries HBO did a while back. So if you liked that one, you most likely will enjoy this.
