Good opening episode to the series. There is a lot to set up with a whole town of new characters and for the most part it was very entertaining. Our main protagonist is 14 year old Jake, who lives with his father after its revealed his mother died in a car crash. The main topic of conversation about Jake is that he's gay, from literally every character in the show to just about everyone reviewing the show. But the more interesting/weird thing about Jake to me is he literally has no friends. I guess you could put it down to his mother's death. But there is no evidence (yet), that he ever had friends and he seems like a normal friendly kid. So its hard to fathom. It was also great that Jake wasn't a hollywood - Yaz Queen - stereotype. That gets old quickly. I also liked this version of Chucky. Especially the face shots. He looked like he was made of actual hard plastic. Like he used to in the early movies. It was well done. Out of all the cast, some of the standouts and more interesting characters are : * Junior - feels like the guy has some layers. * Junior's mum - Lexa Doig from Jason X!, who has a secret of her own. * Lexy - the popular mean girl who uses social awareness & social media as a weapon - this I particularly loved, because its kind of spot on. * Science teacher - I liked that she wasnt dumbed down to make the kids seem smarter - she wasnt taking any of their crap. The highlight scene was probably the talent show, where Jake and Chucky do a ventriloquist act. We also get our first kill which sets up a new status quo. But with 10 episodes, I'm ok with that. I gave it a 7 to begin - but I'm sure when all the fan favorites start returning its going to get crazy. I know Don loves his continuity and Easter eggs so I cant wait to see what he has in store for us.
