Geena Davis set up an institute called The Geena Davis Foundation. They do research on gendered ageism in Hollywood. They found that men over 50 significantly outnumber women over 50. When women were given roles they were often portrayed as being much older than they are and most didn't have romantic relationships. I don't have to have a 20 year old athletic model in a leading role in order to enjoy the series. It is terrible how society only values women youth and beauty. Once we reach a certain age we are seen as less valuable. Read one of the first reviews as evidence of this. We could learn a thing or two from countries who see older women as beautiful and wise.
