The not particularly bad lead character learns not particularly insightful lessons from the ghosts she's tasked with writing the obituaries for. It's all not very interesting for the following reasons: 1) The production values are After School Special level. The sets are obviously sets peopled with actors obviously actors. The cheap set design is probably due to budget constraints brought about by a lack of studio faith in the project. 2) The acting is terrible. The reason is difficult to fathom. Either none of these people are capable of acting, or the director is unable to extract a performance from them. Probably a combination of both since Martin Mull can act. Either way, the delivery is After School Special. 3) The plots are limp. In the first episode our lead learns the lesson that being nice is nice. In the second episode she learns not to insult those with mental illness. For a children's show these would be good lessons. What are we to make of an adult learning them at age 37. On the plus side, the now mandatory one-of-each diversity is merely present and not part of some supposedly big 'message'. There is an attempt at humor, which is always appreciated, though laughs are few and far between. And the lead actress my not be able to act, but she is certainly likable. Five stars for breaking the mold and introducing diversity without shouting 'Hey! Look what we did! Aren't we edgy artistic types!" and for the likable lead. I have to wonder where the show would be with an equally likable lead, say someone like America Ferrara or Jane Levy who actually can act? We'll never know. Five stars for what we do have.
