Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is a classic case of diminishing returns since this unnecessary sequel is content to repeat the exact same plot as the original at a bigger scale with less effective results, especially because of a newfound focus on increasingly convoluted lore. However it still manages to be bloody good fun in places, doesn't waste any time getting the new game going and reaches a satisfying conclusion which thankfully leaves no room for a potential third instalment. Samara Weaving is great by giving it her all once again as her character gets put through hell directly after surviving the first night and her relationship with a really good Kathryn Newton adds a decent amount of heart when they gradually warm to each other. There's a pretty big supporting cast here who are all totally game and definitely know how to play their entertainingly one note characters but Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy and Elijah Wood are the main highlights. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett get things off to a strong start thanks to an extended take which bridges the gap between the two films and they consistently deliver solid sequences throughout the middle portion despite an undeservedly smug attitude in their execution. The commitment to loads of people spontaneously exploding is appreciated even if its getting stale by the end and the comedy rarely lands because it feels like the jokes are simply repeating themselves from last time.
