Though the opening of this program was similar to an SNL skit totally falling flat on its cake, the brilliantly executed closing--coming AFTER the "Best Picture" envelope was opened and its portents read--dovetailed perfectly with the night's events. How could the writers have known in advance that Penn would win a statuette and be the sole victorious no-show failing to take a swig of milk in Victory Lane, or that the host barbarian would emulate Penn's winning character in an ashes-to-ashes manner?
