While the preface description is a satisfactory overview it barely scrapes the surface of a fantastic script and excellent performances by the cast. Writer Ed Solomon - known for more high budget action thriller movies - has developed an evolving story of not only story line but character development and reveal. Casting is perfect with veteran Ian Mckellan nailing the crotchety yet insecure hurt artist spanning a variety of emotions. Newcomer Michaela Coel, while radiating not only stoic pensive poise as a serious listener also shines as she reflects subtle underlying emotions. The bit parts played by Corden and Gunning are just the perfect balance of inane squirrely comedy to offset the intense yet chronically emotional performance between the leads. Soderbergh has a critical gem in his catalog with interesting softer slightly out of focus shots / scenes which reflect the ambiguity and layers of different situations. While fortunate to see at a theater this is easily a good stream - but one things for sure this is one of the years best stories worthy of time if not even a second watch to catch valuable details and insights.
