The 2025 feature film directorial debut of actress Kristen Stewart is an adaption of Lidia Yuknavitch's autobiographical book, which asks the question "How many miles do you have to swim to arrive with yourself?". And the rest of this film shows, through a fragmented, disjointed, temporally unchronological narrative, some of this 'journey' in an emotional, visceral, bodily fluids happy psychological melodrama, as Lidia (Imogen Poots) has to navigate a childhood with an abusive bully of a father (Michael Epp), becoming a competitive swimmer, and then a writer. Set in the US but filmed in Latvia and Malta !? (with good cinematography by the aptly named Corey C Waters), and with a scene stealing performance from Jim Belushi (as Ken Kesey), this is a film in which memory and pain is turned into art and creativity, with the recurring motif of water, and other liquids.
