Except for a few exceptions like "Training Day," "Sinister" and "Moon Knight" Ethan Hawke tends to play the same wide-eyed, aging Austin hipster (himself) over and over again, and this shaggy detective series looks more suited for Nick Nolte thirty years ago. But with a top-shelf (even if they can't reach it. Sorry) cast like Dinklage, Keith David and Jean Tripplehorne it at least holds your attention, and I always like when forgotten Midwestern cities are used for noir locales (and it's not like you can understand what Stallone is saying on his Tulsa show). Sure better than this Rosario Dawson series I was an extra on years ago; got so mired in sub-David Lynchian tone it was like watching a tortoise race. The Hawkman Cometh for The Lowdown! Or something.
