Under Salt Marsh S01 480p WEB-DL x264
The "creators" of "Under Salt Marsh" draw heavily from the previous Welsh crime drama's "Y Gwyll", "Craith" and "Cleddau" using same or similar locations and actors to produce a highly derivative but reasonably compelling drama. The vaguely familiar story hangs together well enough, and filming and acting (with one exception) is of a suitably high quality - Attention is held. And so, to the exception, Kelly Reilly. Appearing on screen as incongruously as David Bowie in "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" Kelly Reilly seems to be the only actor unaware "realism" is what is required of her. Her performance, which lacks any credibility, subtly or believability takes up so much screen time, it tragically disables the whole production. But no one should be criticised for attempting something that they are simply incapable of. The blame is elsewhere. And in her defence the character she plays, at times, is not to be motivated by circumstance but by a need to move the plot along, which is not her fault and which, again, negates the realism. However, the rest of the cast are able to show off their craft with the alien in their midst. Rafe Spall excels (with his perfect West Bromwich accent), so too Naomi Yang (who luckily did receive the "this is realism" memo) underplays her side-kick role engagingly. But thankfully there is Jonathan Pryce, we wait patiently for his appearance, which is reason enough to stay onside to the end.
