As a work of film, the acting and cinematography holds up. But the show has so many glaring issues. The flashbacks are disingenuous and are always portrayed in a sensationalized manner with a dark score to portray religious things as sinister and dark. The church's history flashbacks also contain false and unverified details and portray them as factual. Furthermore, the writing is atrocious. By definition, it is obsessive in how it has to mention the words "Mormon, Latter-day Saint, Heavenly Father, Gospel" and other buzzwords every other sentence in strange attempts to remind us we're talking about religious people.
