Wayward Complete S01 1080p WEB-DL DDP5.1 x265

Ugh. If I could rate just the first 7 episodes, I'd give it a solid 8 stars. The final episode, though, left more questions than answers. For a limited series, you really need a strong twist to make it stand out, but instead, this just kind of fizzles away... There's no big payoff, no catharsis, no real resolution, just a slow fade to meh. That said, the acting and casting were done well. Toni Collette, as always, was fantastic. This is a show driven more by its script than its characters. Much like a cult, there's a lack of individuality and more of a collective mindset. Because of that, we don't get much character development, which feels intentional in this context. The story shows how a real-life cult might recruit a 'wayward' teen with past trauma and pull them into the fold by giving them a pseudo-family and convincing them to stay forever. In that sense, it does a great job showing the reality of cult brainwashing and manipulation. Tl;dr: Good show, disappointing ending.
