I find it hard to adjust to the casting in this what would have been an otherwise in my opinion quite watchable series. I watched the first episode thinking this may be okay and mistook the friend Misha as a foreign acquaintance of the count only to discover in episode 2 he was some sort of party apparatchik. In episode 2 more non white Russian characters started to appear and from that I formed the opinion that this show has been badly miscast and in essence destroyed the intent of the novel as I see it. I have no issue with DEI if the story can support it but I am sorry non white bolsheviks in 1922 post revolution Russia is just a bridge too far. I will struggle to engage with the remainder of the series I think.
