Sometimes a movie is more than the sum of its parts, but with LCL it's just the reverse: the parts seem to subtract from the whole until it merges with the generic. Corrin's performance just kind of hangs there disconnected. She has no chemistry with O'Connell, who gets the accent, but doesn't really seem to get the roughness of a game-keeper. The nude scenes are the reverse of joyously sensuous. The music, the photography, costumes, the direction - all in good taste, yet none of them enhance or deepen the story; they rather expose the ordinariness. Watching it is worthwhile, nonetheless, because it can provoke the viewer, using the scaffolding provided, to construct a more personal, transgressive, and passionate imaginative experience.
