The show really looked to have potential, but it just fell flat in reality. The parents are tirelessly overplayed to the point where you just do not care about the characters. I think the series would have worked better if they had 'Fran' as a widow who lost her money/savings from medical bills treating her husband before he passed away. At least there would be an ounce of sympathy for the character and a hope that she rebounds. She would become the intruding mother/mother-in-law who, through some well written plot lines would help solve the crisis of the day for the family and bring a warmth to the overall story.
