Saw this at an AMC mystery movie. It takes its name from the 1978 pseudo-documentary pseudo-snuff film. The premise is that a serial killer is recreating the various scenes from that movie and posting them to social media Meanwhile we have a social media content moderator who begins to notice and wants to stop it It plays a little bit like the Eyes Of Laura Mars without the supernatural element and no attempt to hide the killers identity. Both lead characters have tools at their disposal and use them wisely. For the tech minded, the representation of the social media screens and tools used for various research (from basic web searches to recruiting help on reddit) are all realistic yet still movie-worthy. I never watched the 1978 faces of death. Clips are shown here as are the recreations. And it is all too gruesome. The movie should have been NC17, not R. Finally, the movie has some salient points about the damage social media and influencers are doing to our world. It's a shame those points are wrapped inside a movie few people will want to see.
