I love this movie! It's about family, dads and daughters, grief and redemption. Dance as a backdrop to life. Wonderful acting and direction. Just go. You won't regret it. You'll leave feeling enriched in unexpected ways. Steve Zahn and Ethan Hawke have deep chemistry. Zahn and his real life daughter spark with emotion. The scenes from real life dance competitions bring the whole "world" into focus. The "dance moms" add sweetness, silly flirtiness, and depth to the women who will do what it takes to support their kid's dreams and each other. The backdrop of unspeakable family tragedy and the Herculean effort each family member and close friends muster to keep each other afloat and putting one foot in front of the other. The slow lurching towards a new normal and how some family members get lost along the way and then the unexpected grace and forgiveness that may come if you're lucky and hang in there. This movie covers the full range of the human condition in a real and generous way. Just go. You will be better for it.
